  • Structure and organization, and the 'always a student' mindset. As someone fresh out of university, finding an organization that develops you to become an effective contributor is hard to come by here in the Philippines. So when I became part of the program here in AboitizPower, right off the bat, I knew that I was going to learn a lot due to the vast number of learning opportunities available. They weren't joking about the 'always a student' mindset. The system. The company has really good culture and the values are being manifested by the people in the company exuding a good working environment that fosters learning and growth. Included in the system is the satisfactory compensation.
  • Every aspect in AboitizPower is excellent. The training program for the Cadet Engineers is fine-tuned to equip the trainees with adequate knowledge and technical expertise. The employees are purpose-driven and are very smart. The facilities are up to standard and the equipment are not cluttered. AboitizPower also emphasizes to implement the safety protocols in isolating equipment and conducting hazard analysis.
  • At AboitizPower, the culture and the emphasis on integrity set a high standard for work ethic and performance. Mistakes are viewed as learning opportunities and are not discouraged.

  • The plant I am assigned to is situated quite far, but the commute is manageable thanks to AboitizPower's shuttle service.
  • There is no worst thing about working for AboitizPower so far, as my experience has been very smooth – from onboarding to orientation and actual lectures and training. However, if I were to mention a challenge, it would be more on the personal side. I commute daily using the company shuttle for free, and I am still adjusting to it. As the days go by, I am becoming more accustomed to the daily commute. I am still in the process of adapting, but I am willing to do so because I genuinely enjoy learning every day from our cadetship program.

Right now, I am still discovering my preferred career path, and I am excited because our technical trainer oriented us about the potential career paths for our roles in the future. I believe it's beneficial that I went through AboitizPower's cadetship program before committing to a specific career path because it gives me time to train and improve my knowledge and skills, as well as discover which career I am truly passionate about. So far, all roles offer interesting career paths, whether in operations, maintenance, or support groups. Each has its pros and cons, but ultimately, they lead us to a better future.

AboitizPower and Therma South Inc., in particular, have a well-established culture that prioritizes safety, learning, and providing responsible, reliable, and reasonably priced power for the country. During office hours, I sense a feeling of satisfaction and enjoyment from the employees around me because I see that they are performing their jobs to the best of their abilities. Respect and teamwork are highly valued here in AboitizPower because our supervisors and senior employees are very willing to help us in our tasks by explaining and sharing their knowledge gained through experience. Also, in the shuttle service, I meet other employees and feel happy because they acknowledge me as one of their colleagues and not just another cadet engineer. I believe it is important for new cadets to feel this way to truly improve in our roles. People here are friendly and approachable, and I don’t feel intimidated approaching even the supervisors for advice because they also want to offer guidance.

All of our office locations and facilities at AboitizPower are consistently maintained in their best conditions. The layout allows for a more collaborative space and is flexible, depending on the function they need to serve. In plant facilities, we strictly adhere to dress codes, ensuring the right Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is worn for safety. Inside offices, we have the liberty to wear casual to formal clothing, promoting a sense of modesty.

The interview process was really fun, I was not intimidated by our HR and Supervisor during my first and second interview. I really locked in my choice of going with AboitizPower because I felt that the interviewers were very welcoming and I felt that I am respected and important for the company. I felt that not all companies give their possible new hires this appreciation and motivation.

At AboitizPower, there are several modules/lessons we have to take, followed by exams and reporting. It's a well-structured program that allows us to adjust to the workplace first and then gradually increase the difficulty of the training or lessons. These training sessions are conducted through online resources and discussions, as well as onsite discussions with different departments. Through this program, I have learned and improved my skills in reading piping and instrumentation diagrams and reporting, among other things.
