Job Satisfaction at AboitizPower

The first phase was a classroom-plant-visit learning scheme where our mentor explained technicalities and we would later visit the actual working system. We also created a system to help the production department. Now we are developing basic skills needed in the company through TESDA.

Based on my job description and the program, I am to learn the basics and build my foundation. So far, the learning materials are provided, guidance by supervisors are provided, together with their exceeding passion to teach, guide, give support and opportunities for me to perform my role.

Cadet engineer is responsible for knowing the fundamental activities in the plant including the water treatment, operations, power block, maintenance and coal-handling. Must also observe the standard operating procedures in conducting work such as the permit-to-work system and the safety measures such as Lock-out/Tag-out. Should be able to explain the basic processes in every subsystem and the purpose of the machines and instrumentation devices.

We operate and manage the equipment in the plant and facilitate the servicing and routine operations

My day-to-day responsibilities is mostly focused on learning the overview of the plant through discussions and field training.

As a Cadet Engineer, I am tasked with knowing the overall process of the plant here in TVI. This includes venturing out different fields that are new to me like the Water Treatment.

As a cadet engineer, I am tasked to learn the company's culture and objectives as well as the technicalities behind the operation of the power plant through face to face, synchronous, and asynchronous video discussions.

I am part of the team who is responsible for the effective and efficient operation and dispatch of the generation assets of the plant to maximize energy generation and resources. Aside from such, we safely manage the transition of all renewable plant assets under the Hedcor group from operation to safe-to-maintain states.

When I was hired as a PV Maintenance Engineer in the Solar Power Plant, it was still under construction. Initially, the daily activities differed from my expectations, primarily involving office works and documentations. However, as the Commercial Operation Date of the plant approaches, I am anticipating a shift towards more hands-on operations and maintenance activities. I am hopeful for the opportunity to contribute effectively to the operational phase, ensuring a well-organized and successful maintenance approach.

My role as cadet engineer is to learn and understand the basics of the plant processes. As for my day-to-day responsibility, we are tasked to participate in trainings, classes and plant line tracing to better familiarize our powerplant. I am satisfied of the way our program is organized right now, because we are also given weekly assessments such as reporting and written quizzes to allow us to recall our learnings improving our knowledge on the topic for the week.

As a recent graduate hired for a position in the field, I am highly satisfied with how things have been - especially with the training that allowed me to apply what I learned in college. I also find great satisfaction in having a sense of responsibility in my work here in AboitizPower.
