Training & Personal Development at AboitizPower

9.5
9.5 rating for Training, based on 12 reviews
Please describe the training programmes at your company and tell us what skills you've picked up.
At the start of the program, we got to be mentored by an amazing engineer who readily gave us the ins and outs of the production side, teaching us that we should have skills from production, troubleshoot like someone from maintenance, and have foresight like a planner. Every Thursday we have a Common day with the production team to discuss and review systems, alarms, parameters, and the like. This immerses us better with the department. Recently, I got to attend the 4th Philippine International Geothermal Conference which was definitely a treat. Currently, us, the cadets, are enrolled in TESDA for our skills building which would result to us obtaining 3 national competency certifications After that, we'll be immersed in various departments to shed light on the nature of the work of the departments. Simply put, this keeps us from working in the dark and removes trails of thought if the role to be assigned to us is a perfect fit or not.

Prior to the actual start of the job, Onboarding tasks were given online to help prepare. This job I have is basically a training which is programmed, I believe to be with consideration to me or to what my capabilities, and responsibilities are. There is a prepared training program which I believe opens future opportunities as an addition to the several knowledge and skills I will experience and acquire along the course of the program.

Training program for Cadet Engineers is remarkable because the training personnel is really gathering information in every department. Some of the skills I acquired are: - Piping and Instrumentation and Single Line Diagrams - Theoretical plant systems and reporting - Hazard Identification, Risk Assessment and Determining Controls - Permit to Work - Lock-out/Tag-out Procedures - Fire Extinguishing Procedures

The trainings are well encouraged and implemented fine. There are specific schedules for formal trainings, though due to the outages and busy schedule, a lot were postponed or cancelled. Informal trainings teaches independence and builds trust and teamwork. Ive learned to handle a majority of the common troubles and procedures for the daily operation of the plant. Mistakes are very welcome and not scary.

At AboitizPower, there are several modules/lessons we have to take, followed by exams and reporting. It's a well-structured program that allows us to adjust to the workplace first and then gradually increase the difficulty of the training or lessons. These training sessions are conducted through online resources and discussions, as well as onsite discussions with different departments. Through this program, I have learned and improved my skills in reading piping and instrumentation diagrams and reporting, among other things.

In the cadetship program our technical (formal) training is broken down into parts : Lecture discussion and Site visit learning. In our plant specific training we are taught by our mentor about the concept and processes, then we are exposed to the actual site in order to reinforce our learning. And I really appreciate this type of learning system they established because it allows us to actualize our conceptual learnings. So far I have picked up skills such as safety awareness, P&ID interpretation and tracing, and also some knowledge on our water treatment facility processes, this is so far what I have learned in my 1 month in TSI. For informal training, I also really love the way people are approachable and willing to teach us when we asked them about something related to the powerplant process. They dont make us feel dumb, because they acknowledge that we are still fairly new to this industry and they try their best to explain to us.
