Pros & Cons

  • The vibe, I think we have a really positive and welcoming feeling throughout our working space.
  • Work life balance.
  • The company has a great culture. Everyone who works here is really nice and welcoming (and also super smart and talented).
  • People: Everyone is friendly and really good at what they do. Impact: You will be working on things used by millions of people. Trust and responsibility: Canva gives a lot of trust and responsibility to all of its employees.
  • It's always changing.
  • There can sometimes be a lack of documentation about processes/how things can work, so you can run around a bit trying to find the right person to ask about certain things.

Corporate Social Responsibility
Canva has recently started a whole host of initiatives in response to COVID-19, and before that in response to the bushfires. Can't list them all in detail here, but people do genuinely follow the company's value to "be a good human".

Culture
People are very welcoming, we're very goal oriented but also not forgetting to celebrate when a goal is hit, plus we have a seasonal gathering where the company gets to showcase projects to everyone, giving us an incredible visibility on what is going on within the company. As one of our values stated, everyone always aspires to be a force for good on and off work.

Diversity
Canva seems to understand that a lot of this bias is unconscious, and has training sessions to help make employees aware of their potential biases when conducting interviews, and suggest ways to improve. There are childcare programs for parents during the school holidays, and parents often bring their kids to work during that time. There was recently pride week, which had a number of LGBT themed events. The office also has unisex bathrooms, which help make work safer for transgender employees.

From my own experience, it starts with a phone call from the recruiter here we get to know about me as a candidate and Canva as an employer we also did the first phone screening questions related to the job, then I was put in touch for a remote coding interview, and finally an on-site interview as the final step.

Very flexible. No one expects you to start / end at any particular time. All that is expected is that you get the work done, and are around / available for meetings.

A lot of the food eaten by everyone in the office is sourced from a local farm that Canva owns. They use recycled toilet paper in all the bathrooms, and all the waste is separated and composted/recycled where possible.
