One of the coolest aspects of my job is the never-ending stream of challenges and learning opportunities.

What's your job about?

As a Collections Associate at Emerson Manila, I excel at managing multiple collection portfolios and playing a crucial role in ensuring prompt payments from our valued customers. With a keen eye for resolving payment delays and promptly addressing customer inquiries, I am entrusted to deliver exceptional service. My responsibilities encompass managing issues, handling disputes, processing claims, and making necessary credit adjustments, all while fostering positive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Through seamless collaboration with various departments within Emerson Manila and our U.S. counterparts, including customer service, returns, warehouse, and cash application, we form a cohesive unit focused on delivering unparalleled customer satisfaction.

What's your background?

Growing up in a family immersed in the food catering business, I developed a deep appreciation for exceptional customer service and the art of delivering quality experiences. This upbringing instilled in me a passion for business, ultimately leading me to pursue a degree in business and finance. During my time in college, I became the Vice President for Communications of Junior Financial Executives (LCUP), an organization dedicated to nurturing finance students like myself. Through this role, I honed my leadership skills and learned the importance of responsibility and discipline, qualities that I now carry with me into the workplace.

An exciting challenge awaited me during my internship at Casa Bella Collective, where I was assigned finance-related tasks while also venturing into marketing responsibilities. Despite not having a marketing background, I embraced the opportunity to broaden my business knowledge and enhance my skill set. In 2022, I proudly achieved my dream of earning a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, majoring in Financial Management, at La Consolacion University Philippines. Graduating with Latin honors and being recognized with the esteemed Best in OJT award were unexpected yet incredibly rewarding milestones. I learned that hard work and perseverance can transform dreams into tangible achievements.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Absolutely! I believe that individuals from different backgrounds can excel in my role. The key is to possess a willingness to learn and embrace challenges. What makes Emerson stand out is their University Training Program, specifically designed for fresh graduates or aspiring employees without prior experience in finance or collections. This program provided me with valuable insights into the significance of my role within the company and guided me in representing Emerson's purpose and values. As a proud product of this program, I can confidently say that it equips individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive as collectors.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

One of the coolest aspects of my job is the never-ending stream of challenges and learning opportunities. While my tasks may seem routine, every request, issue, and customer behavior is unique. I encounter new and unfamiliar situations that push me to expand my knowledge and skills. It's through these challenges that I constantly learn, grow, and push my limits. Moreover, the support and collaboration from my teammates create a strong sense of unity and shared goals. If you have a passion for continuous learning, enjoy tackling challenges, and thrive in a collaborative team environment, this job is perfect for you.

What are the limitations of your job?

While my job entails a significant amount of responsibility and decision-making, one of its limitations is the need for coordination with various departments before making certain decisions. For example, when dealing with unresponsive accounts or issuing credit adjustments, I must collaborate with other teams to ensure the proper handling of each case. I can recommend and justify actions, but the final decision lies with supervisors or the relevant teams. Although it poses a limitation, this aspect fosters collaboration and emphasizes the value of teamwork. By working together, we achieve the best outcomes for our customers and maintain effective operations.

3 pieces of advice for yourself when you were a student:

  • First is trust the process - embrace failures and hardships as part of a greater plan. Trust that setbacks are stepping stones towards something bigger and better.
  • Second, prioritize self-care - while academics are crucial, remember to take breaks and rest when needed. Don't feel guilty about taking breaks and ensuring you're physically and mentally refreshed. Balancing work and rest will lead to better outcomes.
  • Lastly, surround yourself with positivity - surround yourself with supportive and uplifting individuals who believe in your abilities. Having a strong support system, including family and friends, will motivate you to strive for greatness without feeling the need to constantly prove yourself.
