What's your job about?

Gardenia Bakeries Philippines Inc. is the leading and fastest growing bread brand in the country. Along with this is to ensure that quality talent is recruited to deliver excellent products and other services to its customers.

As a Talent Acquisition Staff, my responsibility is to recruit only the best and quality applicants from a pool of talents. After assessing and careful deliberation, our Onboarding team will make sure to welcome our qualified candidates with the warmest welcome that it can offer. The role does not end with assisting in recruitment, part of our engagement activity is to ensure that each hire will stay and also exceed the expectations of every hiring department.

It may look tiring, yes it is, but as long as you’re enjoying what you are doing almost everything will stay smooth along the way. Just like what Jack Ma said, “Never give up. Today is hard, tomorrow will be worse, but the day after tomorrow will be sunshine”.

I was assigned to the hiring of Corporate Admin, IT/Computer professionals and Quality Assurance requisitions. At first, it was really hard, but, I think of which area can I hire the fastest and that’s where I started and the rest is history for my role as a Talent Acquisition Staff. It’s a strategy plus confidence that you can finish every assigned task given to yours. In present, I am enjoying my job, and will always choose to enjoy my job.

On my workstation, I always start with checking of my Google Calendar and Email. In the morning and early afternoon, I usually do some callouts and interviews of pre-screened applicants from pool/portals. Late afternoon, I do some clerical and admin work. Lastly, before the day ends, I prepare my things and other stuffs for the next day activities. That’s what “A Day in the Life of Talent Acquisition Staff” at Gardenia Bakeries Philippines Inc.

What's your background?

I grew up on a very beautiful province of Laguna. This is where I’ve learned in every craft and in life as well. This is the place where I also found some of the most treasured people in my life. The geography of Laguna is very ideal for tourism and building career for breadwinner/s like me who doesn’t want to relocate in a congested place of Metro Manila.

I am independent and resilient person. My risk appetite is near aggressive, meaning I don’t care if I lose as long as I am learning. I always look on a long term benefits. Part of this I remember when I joined the varsity team and to have a part-time job at the same time while studying during my High School and College days to support all my financial needs to graduate.

I belong to a not so privileged family. During my early adolescence stage, I realized that I need to trust my abilities to survive and utilize all the opportunities that will come.  Life must go on. We must find our happiness and continue living with a purpose.

I am a graduate of BS Psychology at Polytechnic University of the Philippines. Technically, graduates of this course may select between Clinical, Educational and Industrial settings. I personally prefer Industrial Settings, because I believe this is where my strengths are fit in. I’ve been doing this kind of job for more than 2 years and I’m happy with it.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

Yes, though each one of us have different expertise. For example, an engineer cannot be a doctor, maybe sometime if he/she will study again but, he/she needs a longer period of time to learn the strategies and everything. Somehow, I still believe there is always a room for learning and improvements. It’s just holding faith in the process.

Someone must have a very positive mindset and an effective strategy to recruit a quality talent in a timely manner.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

What I like the most about my job are the people and the leadership. The Talent Acquisition team and the people surrounding us are all working harmoniously. Gardenia Bakeries Philippines Inc. provides a lot of engagement activities that help its employees not to be burnout. The company offers a lot of benefits and rewards to its employees who deserve an appreciation or acknowledgement if necessary.

What are the limitations of your job?

Technically the job evolves from the work setup up to the current technology demand or developmental in Industrial Settings. A Talent Acquisition function plays an important role in a company, because the fruit of our labour is significant to other departments. Remember, a great vision is nothing without great talents.

3 pieces of advice for yourself when you were a student...

Going back when I was still studying and young, probably I would thank myself for not giving up. Despite of lack in resources, still, I passed thru all the hardships. I may lack in other crafts but, I will always be I. I am not where I am right now, without of those fails and successes of my past. I do not regret anything that has happened; in fact I am grateful and still moving forward towards my goal.
