Could you share a bit about your background story?

I was born and raised in Quezon City. My story is one of dedication and academic excellence. I was fortunate to be a 100% academic scholar, allowing me to attend prestigious schools without any financial burden. With a father who served in the military and a mother who was a dedicated homemaker and small business owner, my upbringing instilled in me a strong work ethic and entrepreneurial spirit.

Could you walk us through your career journey leading up to your current role at Johnson & Johnson?

During my college days, I took a leap into entrepreneurship by starting a tech startup focused on an application for human resources consulting. This experience provided me with firsthand insights into how technology can revolutionize HR practices and contribute to organizational success. I majored in entrepreneurship and minored in marketing, which ignited my passion for technology and HR, leading me to join J&J after graduation.

For those who haven't heard of Johnson & Johnson, what do they do and what makes the organization unique?

J&J is a renowned global healthcare company that recently separated from its consumer health division. Currently, the company has two primary business sectors: innovative medicine and pharmaceutical companies, which include medical devices. What sets J&J apart is its global community and culture that celebrates and embraces early career talent, fostering an environment of collaboration and continuous learning.

Could you share a brief description of your current role and walk us through a day in your life as a HRLDP at Johnson & Johnson?

As an HRLDP professional, I'm focused on human resources within J&J's graduate program. The program offers rotations in different areas, allowing participants to gain diverse experiences. I have completed rotations in talent acquisition, digital HR intelligent automation, and currently, I'm in business unit HR, where I drive business outcomes by investing in my team's development and well-being.

So far what's the coolest thing that you've worked on while you're at J&J?

I would highlight two impactful projects I've worked on: the VIVA filing automation and the revamped new hires' orientation. The VIVA filing automation project aimed to digitize document management, streamlining the process and saving significant time. The revamped new hires' orientation focused on creating an unforgettable employee experience from day one, ensuring a smooth transition into the company's culture and values.

How did you first find out about the job opening at J&J? 

I joined J&J as a referral candidate, drawn to the company's inclusive culture. Ultimately, J&J's culture played a significant role in my decision-making process, as I believed it was the best fit for my value and aspirations.

How did you get into J&J? What’s the application process as a HRLDP at J&J?

The recruitment process for J&J's Leadership Development Program is unique. It involves an assessment, a virtual interview, and panel interviews with global teams, including a case study presentation. I would highlight the rewarding experience of interacting with the global community during the recruitment process.

How did you prepare for the interviews at J&J?

My preparation strategy involved maximizing online resources like YouTube and TikTok to familiarize myself with common interview questions. My focus was on building confidence and being authentic in my responses, rather than memorizing scripted answers.

What do you think made you stand out and get the job at J&J?

I attribute my startup experience during college as a key factor that made me stand out. My passion for driving the importance of people in a business and my ability to bridge technology solutions with HR strategies resonated with the interview panels.

What did your initial onboarding process look like at J&J?

My onboarding experience at J&J was exceptional. I was assigned a buddy who served as my go-to person for any questions or concerns, ensuring a smooth transition into the company. Additionally, I was provided with a checklist of milestones to achieve during my first few weeks and months, which helped guide my progress.

In terms of work-life balance, how would you describe it in your role?

J&J prioritizes its employees' well-being, which is reflected in their benefits and flexible work arrangements. I particularly highlight the global well-being reimbursement program, which allows employees to spend on various health and wellness activities, promoting a healthy work-life balance.

Any final advice for new graduates or students starting out at J&J or in the corporate world?

I offer three pieces of advice to the younger generations:

  • Find a mentor who believes in you and pushes you forward, as having a supportive guide can significantly impact personal and professional growth.
  • Have fun and embrace the spirit of youth, but also prepare for real-world challenges. This stage is an opportunity to learn, grow, and develop skills.
  • Step out of your comfort zone. Discover your strengths and competitive advantages, and don't be afraid to try new things. Embrace the possibility of stumbling and falling, as early failures can propel you to rise stronger and faster. Live by the mantra: "Fail fast and recover faster."
