Pros & Cons

  • The best thing about working at Emma is the empowerment to take ownership of our own work.
  • There's a lot of ownership and autonomy with my work even though I'm just an intern. I'm able to make decisions without having to consult with my team lead first which makes tasks and projects move along quicker than in a traditional/hierarchical workplace.
  • The people and culture
  • Ownership and freedom to express and execute your ideas. Exposure to various fields of learning which allows for constant growth and development.
  • The overall work environment and atmosphere
  • A flat hierarchy, the freedom to own your projects and decisions, and the room and potential for growth
  • Really steep learning curve and nothing is spoon-fed, so it might not be for everyone.
  • Workload
  • Small team capacity so expects some overlaps with job areas and bigger responsibilities from day 1
  • Not directly related to work responsibilities but more of the causes of the pandemic and working online. It has definitely brought upon some form of challenges in the communication aspect
  • Workload and fast pace may be challenging

Emma's reach for hiring new employees, at least from my experience, is broad. The hiring team goes out to different universities in the Philippines, and I've also seen some job alerts and postings in many apps like LinkedIn and in the online setting.

My team lead is probably one of the best managers I've had, if not the best. He is very considerate and engaging, especially to new members getting into the team. He is also patient and willing to teach some tips and how different processes work within the company.

The office space is nice. In terms of the amenities and the aesthetics, it is very considerate for the employees. No specific dress code, but of course dress presentable.

A lot of the training is really done on the go so even if there is a new hires orientation it’s a lot of stuff to absorb. The best method really is to experience it firsthand and not be afraid to ask questions.
